Remember wiener roasts and cookouts over open bonfires, that great taste from the wood smoke. It was the best part of many camping trips.
The only problem was trudging through the woods looking for fire wood then dragging it back to camp. Finding the hatchet or saw and chopping it up.
Then the challenge of lighting it! If you had dry enough wood and a couple of newspapers a couple of books of matches or a lighter you could strike a fire.
Then you had to carefully add larger wood and wait for it to start and then add larger wood and wait and then small logs and wait again.... after what seemed like an eternity you had a nice little fire going now you just had to wait one last time for it to burn down a little so you could start to cook a great outdoor meal.
MMMM.... Hot dogs, Sausages, Kabobs, Hamburgers, Fish (OK so trying to heat pop tarts on a hot dog fork was not my best idea.)
That great taste was well worth all the work and waiting but is mostly reserved for family vacations or weekend camp outs and scouting trips.
But not anymore!
That same wonderful taste can be achieved with the twig cooker.
All you need is The Famous Twig Stove, a sheet of plain white typing paper, and some twigs.
|
|
Place the stove on a stable surface (if the surface is heat sensitive you may want to place something under the stove to protect it. Here we are using a cookie sheet under the stove.) Arrange some small twigs in the stove on top of the crumpled paper.
|
|
|
|
|
Light the paper. |
about 30 seconds after lighting the twigs are already burning nicely. |
No expensive of charcoal or lighter fluid to purchase.
You can use hot dog forks or grilling baskets, skillets, pans or coffeepots etc.
For an extra tasty treat try some twigs of hickory, Apple, or hard woods.
Think of the money you have spent on charcoal and starting fluid and how long it takes to get started burning good enough to cook.
Twigs can be found almost anywhere. Just break them into small pieces, use a sheet of typing paper wadded up and placed in the bottom of the stove, arrange the sticks over the paper and light the paper.
The Twig Stove is designed to pull air in the bottom and generate the fire so the twigs catch and burn quickly. In just a few minutes you can start cooking.
You need to keep adding twigs as they burn up.
